It was decided at a recent Charity fundraising event in honour of Clayton, who sadly passed away at the young age of 19 of a sudden cardiac arrest, that Mark, Clayton's father, and I (Kevin Connell) would do a skydive to help raise further funding for the Cardiac Risk In The Young (C-R-Y) charity.
The jump itself, I think it is fair to say, was a blast. All the stars aligned on our scheduled day, Saturday, 11th November. The weather, for a November day in Kent, turned out to be absolutely perfect. Perhaps one of the last "jump" days of the year until next March. Our skydive at Headcorn Aerodrome was brilliant and smooth. Super easy to register, watch a safety video and get onto our plane. A special thanks to my instructor Simon, who instilled confidence and made the jump fun. He also took great videos of the event.
The day was a success but we are even more grateful to all of our supporters who contributed £3,379 in support of our skydive for Clayton.
We hope that these funds help CRY continue to do the work it is doing in testing and discovering previously undetected cardiac issues in our young people at an early stage, leading to better outcomes for all.
